HVAC Technical Specialist

Department: DVL HVAC Services
Location: Salt Lake City, UT

The HVAC Technical Specialist position will use prior experience working with cooling, ventilating, and building control systems in commercial and industrial buildings as it relates to data centers. This Technician will use this knowledge to problem solve all related HVAC/R technical challenges for the customer. 


  • Has overall operational understanding of HVAC/R systems including split systems, DX systems, glycol, controls, etc.
  • Has thorough overall knowledge of thermal dynamics and how it relates to heat transference in commercial buildings.
  • Performs standard Preventative Maintenance duties on equipment efficiently and without requiring supervision.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems, change out compressors, failed parts, etc. on all A/C equipment and direct HVAC Technicians and HVAC Technician Assistants on how to assist.
  • Has ability to proficiently solder, braze refrigerant lines, water lines, etc.
  • Communicates daily with dispatcher reporting job by job information about equipment ID, estimated time to complete job, labor hours and parts used.
  • Has ability to read and interpret schematics and control circuits.
  • Manages larger startup and commissioning projects on Liebert/Vertiv Equipment. Answers installing contractor’s technical questions.
  • Interfaces with the customer on a professional basis and presents Liebert and DVL in a positive light.
  • May direct team of installing contractors.
  • Assists in training of HVAC Technicians and HVAC Technician Assistants.
  • Properly handles refrigerant, reclaimer, vacuum pump and other essential tools.
  • Works in a safe manner. Follows industry standard safety practices including knowledge of SDS, tool safety, equipment safety and ladder safety guidelines.
  • Properly operates and maintains company vehicle.
  • Satisfactory complete Liebert/Vertiv Training classes as required.

  • Certificate from a college or trade school
  • At least five-years of full-time HVAC/R experience
  • Experience in all aspects of handling refrigerant and making all necessary repairs required
  • Experience in trouble shooting both simple and complex electrical and refrigeration systems required
  • Universal EPA Certification required
  • OSHA 10 preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Self-starter experience 
  • Available to perform frequent scheduled on-call & overtime duties in surrounding area
  • Ability to travel to Denver, CO for hands on Liebert/Vertiv training
